Job summary

Clemson University in Clemson, SC seeks a Temporary Laboratory Assistant to support technical and professional staff, performing routine tasks and coordinating experiments in a busy biomedical lab.

You will assist with general maintenance, media prep, protocol optimization, data entry and notebook upkeep, and you will independently conduct experiments such as microbial isolation, molecular biology methods, and data presentation at meetings, while maintaining safety and accuracy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or 12 biology/chemistry coursework or ASCP certification.
• Equivalent registry or formal hospital/academic lab assistant program.
• Experience in health care, clinical, or research laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

• General lab maintenance: media preparation, protocol maintenance, and other tasks.
• Independently conduct and coordinate experiments: anaerobic isolation, microbiological assays, media prep, molecular methods, data analysis, and presentations.

JOB SUMMARY

Performs routine technical tasks and simple laboratory procedures to support the work of technical and professional laboratory staff.

JOB DUTIES

• 40% - Participate in general lab maintenance, including but not limited to: media preparation, maintenance and optimization of lab protocols, and other general lab tasks
• 60% - Independently conduct and coordinate laboratory experiments, including but not limited to: anaerobic microbial isolation, microbiological assays, media preparation, molecular methods (DNA extraction, PCR, sequencing), participation in lab meetings, maintenance of an up-to-date lab notebook, entering data, prepare / analyze / present data (such as at lab meetings, conferences, or for manuscripts)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A high school diploma and work experience in a related health care setting or in a clinical or research laboratory setting; or 12 semester hours of academic training in biology and/or chemistry; or registration as a Certified Laboratory Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or an equivalent registry; or successful completion of a formal program of instruction for laboratory assistants at a hospital or academic institution.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Expected Salary Range 15.05 - 15.05 Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Normal Operations - Required to follow emergency facility closure and modified operations directives, and not normally expected to work on-site during emergency situations.
