Overview

Position Highlights

• Part-Time, 20 hours/week
• Location: Schaumburg

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director or Supervisor, the Laboratory Assistant performs laboratory procedures in phlebotomy, general laboratory work, processing, and/or other duties under the direction of a licensed laboratory supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, inventory, and stock supplies and consumables
• Centrifuge, store, retrieve samples, and discard expired samples
• Answer lab phones
• Assist technologists in locating, retrieving, and processing specimens for add-on testing
• Perform water testing monthly
• Perform instrument and water system maintenance
• Make copies, fax results, and refill printer paper as needed
• Monitor lab section pending lists and staff messages
• Perform end-of-shift duties: disinfect counters, clean chairs, and discard analyzer waste
• Assist with and process bone marrow samples
• Set up post-vasectomy and hematology slides
• Set up Sed Rates
• Perform Clinitest QC and patient testing
• Spin tubes for urine microscopy and set up microscopes for techs
• Scan specimens from spokes
• Separate and rack specimens for various tests
• Scan 'done' samples for storage
• During analyzer downtime, prepare packing lists

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Experience as a Phlebotomist
• Moderate knowledge of medical terminology
• Excellent verbal, written, and clerical skills
• Excellent communication and phone skills
• At least 1 year of experience

The compensation includes a base pay range of $16.30-$24.50/hr, with actual pay based on skills, experience, education, certifications, location, and internal equity. Additional incentives may apply.
