Job summary

Quest Diagnostics is seeking a Lab Assistant II in Irving, TX, working Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM with rotational weekends. The role involves processing specimens, supporting Tech Ops, and ensuring data integrity in the pre-analytical phase.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in a laboratory environment or a production setting.
• Medical background with terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
• Familiarity with personal computers and basic Windows-based software.

Responsibilities

• All responsibilities of the Pre-Analytical Assistant I and II; meet or exceed productivity and quality standards for Pre-Analytical Assistant I.
• Solves more complex problems on a routine basis.
• Demonstrates a basic understanding of how Specimen Processing and Tech Ops impact testing departments and result quality.
• Identifies problems with specimen types vs test orders, missing information, improperly positioned bar code labels, etc. with regard to load building, aliquoting, and test add processing.
• Understands the complex relationship between test(s) ordered and specimens received with load building to correct departments.
• Completes all required written documentation such that it is understandable to others, legible and within the assigned time frame.
• Meets quality and production standards within 6 months of completing training.
• Learns additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing to ensure cross-functional support.
• Adheres to all Quest Diagnostics policies and procedures, including safety and compliance.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
• Demonstrates an understanding of compliance policies related to test ordering, which requires developing the ability to research test ordering information on translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services.
• And sorts, racks, picks up and delivers specimens to the laboratory, specimen storage, operates centrifuge, aliquots.
