Job summary

Florida Medical Center seeks a Generalist Medical Laboratory Technician with rotations through blood bank, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, microbiology and urinalysis. You will perform manual and automated routine tests, prepare specimens for microscopic examination, and operate lab equipment as needed.

The role requires graduation from an accredited MLT/MLS program and a national phlebotomy certification. Strong communication and IT skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy certification or training is preferred.
• 1 year of laboratory experience preferred or completion of phlebotomy training.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with lab information systems are preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

Job description

Generalist position rotating through all departments: blood bank, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, basic microbiology and urinalysis. Performs manual and automated routine blood tests. Prepares specimens for microscope examination. Operates laboratory equipment and performs a variety of tasks. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to supervisor or manager. Requires graduation from an accredited MLT/MLS program and passing a national exam given by the Board of Registry of the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within medical laboratory field. 3 months experience preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS/YEARS OF RELATED EXPERIENCE:

• Completion of Phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT or similar preferred
• 1 year of laboratory experience and/or completion of a formal phlebotomy training
• Basic laboratory computer/lab information system experience preferred
• Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with all levels of the organization

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/EDUCATION REQUIRED:

• Phlebotomy Certification
