Job summary

Qualifications

• Education level necessary to obtain required licensure and certifications.
• CPT-1 certification required and CPR (BLS-AHA)
• CA Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT-1) License

Responsibilities

• Ensures safe laboratory practices, universal precautions and OSHA/HIPAA observance at all times.
• Familiarity with MSDS guidelines and State of CA regulations for the laboratory.
• Participate in mandatory training sessions/workshops to maintain basic job standards.
• Evaluate information to identify each patient’s age-specific needs.
• Maintain phlebotomy skills to care for neonates to geriatrics.
• Collect arterial blood for blood gas analysis after certification; report to Medical Laboratory Director.
• Receive and process specimens within established timelines; assess specimen quality and volume.
• Review orders for reference lab testing and route to appropriate testing facility.
• Prepare specimens for send-out testing; batch and dispatch as needed.
• Prepare blood and body fluid smears for Wright Stain and Gram Stain testing for CLS review.
• During downtime, print labels or use downtime labels and post draws.
