Job summary

AdventHealth in Orange City, Florida is hiring for a full-time laboratory support role. Will perform patient specimen collection, processing, and basic testing, with emphasis on phlebotomy, specimen handling, and safety compliance.

The position requires strong English communication, basic computer skills, and excellent customer service. Training includes adherence to Chemical Hygiene and Infection Control policies within a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Technical skills and aptitudes related to laboratory procedures.
• Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English with patients, staff, and customers.
• Ability to read text and numbers in English with comprehension, measurement and reasoning.
• Ability to learn and apply computer-related applications and programs, including using keyboards.
• Mature judgment and ability to handle confidential information.
• Ability to handle infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals safely.
• Must read, write, speak, and understand English well.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Performs waived testing with consistency and reliability.
• Phlebotomy skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• May perform cytopreparatory staining and accessions surgical cases.
• May receive and set up primary specimen cultures, inoculating petri dishes for bacterial growth.
• May clean and disinfect laboratory equipment and spaces, maintaining inventory control and supply stocking.
• Participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities.
• Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines and supports education to clinical staff.
• Follows safety policies including PPE usage, handwashing and chemical handling.
• Demonstrates adherence to Chemical Hygiene and Infection Control policies.
• Collects patient and test information to create patient accounts and verify details.
• May perform blood collection including phlebotomy and puncture for all ages.
• Performs support activities to facilitate department operations (telephone, clerical duties).
• May perform point of care testing, quality control, and result reporting.
• Receives, processes, and transports patient specimens; centrifugation and aliquoting.
• Loads preanalytical instruments or delivers specimens to testing department.
• May transport hazardous waste per training and regulations.
• May perform blood component processing and transfusion-related activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
