Job summary

East Central College is seeking a part-time Instructional Program Assistant – Welding to support welding laboratory activities, equipment upkeep, and inventory records.

You will set up and organize lab materials, schedule demonstrations in accordance with syllabi, assist instructors, maintain storage and inventory, handle hazardous waste procedures, and help supervise students, all within safety regulations. Position is not to exceed 19.75 hours per week and pays $19.73–$26.69 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Welding or related field is required.
  • One year related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, organize, and maintain laboratory materials, equipment, supplies, and related resources.
  • Schedule preparation and set-up of laboratory exercises and demonstrations based on instructors’ syllabi.
  • Modify lab setups in collaboration with instructors to demonstrate equipment or concepts.
  • Maintain laboratory storage facility and an orderly storage area.
  • Store and dispose of hazardous wastes following safety procedures and keep documentation.
  • Maintain clean lab environment and track equipment records and storage locations.
  • Prepare, receive, unpack, and store apparatus and supplies with permanent inventory records.
  • Consult with instructors about minor repairs and coordinate with outside services as needed.
  • Assist faculty in supervising students and document progress as required.
  • Perform duties in a safe manner with minimal supervision.

East Central College has an opening for a part-time Instructional Program Assistant – Welding. This position is responsible for providing support services for Welding laboratory set-up and demonstrations, including maintaining the equipment and inventory records for the laboratory and equipment.

This is a part-time position not to exceed 19.75 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications

(A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

  • Associates degree in Welding or related field and one year related experience required
Essential Tasks
  • Set up, organize, and maintain laboratory materials, equipment, supplies, and related resources. Review laboratory exercises and demonstrations outlined in manuals and textbooks to determine feasibility and recommend modifications based on available equipment and resources while ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Schedule preparation and set-up of laboratory exercises and demonstrations based on instructors’ syllabi including preparing and setting up equipment deemed to be too hazardous for students to handle.
  • Instructor(s) will discuss modifications in lab set-ups, and how to develop labs to demonstrate particular equipment, exercises or concepts.
  • Maintain the laboratory storage facility and an orderly storage area.
  • Store and dispose of hazardous wastes using procedures that insure safety and legal restrictions are met; assist in informing faculty and staff of proper procedures. Maintain documentation in an organized, accessible fashion.
  • Assist with maintaining the laboratory in a clean and orderly fashion; maintain records on pieces of equipment. Maintain records of any equipment stored at off-campus storage locations.
  • Prepare, receive, unpack, and store apparatus, supplies, and special equipment, maintaining a permanent inventory record system of the kind, number, and costs of articles.
  • Consult instructor about making minor repairs as needed and/or coordinating repairs with outside agencies as required.
  • Assist faculty in the supervision of students in the laboratory and the oversight of their progress. Document progress as needed.
  • Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner with minimal supervision.
Salary range

$19.73 - $26.69 per hour. While the full salary range is provided for growth potential, most new hires are initially placed within the lower portion of the range based on experience and institutional compensation guidelines. Position is level 105.
