Location: Primarily Technical Education Center, but any location assigned by the appropriate administrator

Job Purpose

Instruct Welding Technology related courses for KCKCC at any assigned location. This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position accepted on an on-going basis due to increasing demand for courses in this subject area.

Position Description
  • Instruct students using learner-centered pedagogy.
  • Teach courses in all major welding and cutting processes as well as safety and blueprint reading.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment as needed.
  • Plan lessons and activities that will enable students to master skills and complete course objectives.
  • Work with other faculty to ensure quality environment for students.
  • Maintain student records in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Follow appropriate safety practices as they pertain to welding industry.
  • Participate in professional development to continually improve personal skills and the Welding Technology Program.
  • Assist with welding community outreach and Advisory Committee recruitment and support.
  • Other duties as assigned by Lead Welding Instructor and Dean of Technical Education Center.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of various Welding processes equipment and operation.
  • Knowledge of Shop equipment.
  • Knowledge of transformer and inverter type welding power sources.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of students, faculty, and staff in the organization and with community partners.
  • Ability to troubleshoot welding equipment for various processes.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to Organize and explain content using methods that are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experience.
  • Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation, and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher order thinking skills.
Position Qualifications and/or Education
Minimum Qualifications and/or Education
  • College Certificate in Welding or closely related field.
  • Minimum Five (5) years’ experience in Welding and Fabrication.
  • Knowledge of SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, OFC, PAC, CAC-A, Oxy-Fuel welding/brazing, and/or casting repair processes.
Preferred Qualifications and/or Education
  • American Welding Society Certified Welding Educator and/or Certified Welding Inspector or ability to obtain those certifications.
  • Associates degree or higher in a closely related field.
  • Education or training experience.
  • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.

Work Schedule

Primarily working evening hours. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs, may require weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
