Job summary

Interpath Laboratory’s North Platte facility is hiring a Lab Assistant. This entry-level role supports lab operations, handles specimens, and assists with pre-analytical processes in a fast-paced clinical lab, while gaining hands-on experience.

Full-time, Monday–Friday, 11:00 AM–8:00 PM. Starts at $18 per hour (DOE) with benefits: medical/dental/vision, 401(k) with employer match, PTO, and in-house lab testing opportunities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist clinical lab and technical staff with pre-analytical laboratory processes.
• Support daily laboratory workflows to ensure timely and accurate testing.
• Receive, label, and properly handle specimens.
• Prepare and manage laboratory send-out specimens.
• Perform order entry and clerical/computer-based duties.
• Maintain accurate documentation to support laboratory operations.
• Follow established laboratory procedures to ensure specimen integrity and accurate results.
• Maintain attention to detail in all aspects of work.
• Learn new laboratory processes and systems.
• Take on additional responsibilities as skills and knowledge develop.

What You’ll Do

• Support Lab Operations
  • Assist clinical lab and technical staff with pre-analytical laboratory processes
  • Support daily laboratory workflows to ensure timely and accurate testing

Qualifications

• Laboratory, phlebotomy, or healthcare experience preferred but not required
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

• Highly dependable with consistent and reliable attendance
• Motivated, quick learner with interest in clinical laboratory work

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and move throughout the laboratory for extended periods
• Manual dexterity to handle specimens, lab tools, and computer equipment
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
• Visual and auditory ability to read labels, identify specimens, and communicate clearly
• Ability to bend, stoop, and reach to access laboratory equipment and supplies

OSHA Category

This position involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and/or tissues. Employees performing these duties are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination series.

It is our company policy to provide, free of charge, the Hepatitis Vaccine Series for all employees of the company who may be exposed to blood or body fluids.
1. Employees will be counseled upon hire regarding the vaccination series.
2. Upon the signing of the proper form, the employee will begin their series at the next scheduled vaccination day after hiring.
3. The series will be administered by a nurse at a designated clinic or hospital.
4. Documentation will be kept in the employee's permanent Personnel File.
5. When necessary, the Medical Director will determine follow up protocol.
Eligibility for Hepatitis Vaccine will be decided by the employee's supervisor based on their possible exposure to blood or body fluids during job performance, such as (but not limited to): Phlebotomy, Sample handling, Testing, Courier of Specimens, Direct patient contact/care, Janitorial Services.
