Job summary

Synectics Inc. in Houston, TX seeks a Laboratory Assistant to perform routine lab functions with precision to support lab professionals and production.

You will sort and receive specimens, prepare reagents, run basic instrumental maintenance, record data, and ensure proper labeling, storage, QA/QC, and compliance with PPE and safety regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Medical assistant training helpful.
• Math and science courses preferred.
• Ability to establish work priorities and handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency.
• Must retain information once learned.
• Must interact with coworkers and customers with courtesy and respect.

Responsibilities

• Perform various routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate fashion to assist the laboratory professional staff.
• Sorting, receiving specimens in the department.
• Runs routine instrument maintenance on some equipment.
• Centrifuging specimens, printing extra labels, recording data (temperature charts) and specimen storage/retrieval.
• Preparing reagents or media in the department.
• Preparing specimens at workstations for testing and related tasks.
• Performs QA/QC duties as assigned.
• Finds missing samples.
• Decontaminates work areas.
• Performs weekly radioactive wipe tests.
• Follows PPE requirements and safety regulations.
• Uses the laboratory computer system and operates PCs.

• Sorting, and receiving specimens in the department.
• Performs routine instrument maintenance on some equipment.
• Performs laboratory tasks of centrifuging specimens, printing extra labels, recording data (temperature charts) specimen storage and retrieval.

• Preparing specimens at workstations for testing. (Including building worklists, aliquoting specimens into sample cups, checking specimens for clots and fibrin, inoculation, slide preparation)
• Performs QA/QC duties as assigned.
• Finds missing samples.
• Decontaminates work areas.
• Performs weekly radioactive wipe tests.
• Follows all PPE requirements and all safety regulations.
• Uses the laboratory computer system as well as operates PCs.
• Disposes of biohazardous material.
• Completes training and competency checklists as appropriate.
