Job summary

U.S. Dermatology Partners in Maryland seeks a detail‑oriented Mohs/Pathology Lab Technician to support Mohs and pathology workflows in our facility. You will prepare slides, assign case numbers, maintain maps and labeling accuracy while upholding safety and quality standards.

You will log results, enter demographics, and assist with staining, QA, and report processing. Excellent communication in English and proficiency with Microsoft Office are essential for collaborating with pathologists and

Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented, precise with data and documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills and data entry.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and patient privacy.
  • Ability to work in a team and support staff.
  • Responsible for accurate labeling, charting, and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Mohs/Excision templates for patient charts.
  • Assign Mohs/DAF numbers for sites to be processed.
  • Prepare individual maps for first stage tissue in Mohs Lab.
  • Load slides on stainer and apply coverslips.
  • Log stage/slide counts into Mohs log book.
  • Maintain daily stain controls and QA documentation.
  • Enter pathology results and patient demographics.
  • Operate Intellipath and manage requisitions.
  • File requisitions and prepare for scanning.
  • Adhere to safety policies and support high-quality service.
  • Support organization needs and perform other duties as required.

SECTION 1: Job Summary (Summary of the basic functions of the position)Provides assistance in the Mohs / Pathology Laboratory.SECTION 2:Mohs Lab Duties and Responsibilities (Responsibilities necessary to accomplish job functions)Prepares Mohs / Excision templates for pt. chartsAssigns a Mohs number / DAF number for each site to be processed in the Mohs Lab with frozen sectionsPrepares individual patient maps for all first Stage tissue to be processed in the Mohs LabLoad slides on stainerCoverslip slidesAssist with making stage slides during heavy workflowAssist with copying patient information for stage mapsType / print / apply labels for Mohs slidesLog stage / slide count information into Mohs log bookMaintain daily stain (H&E and T-Blue) control documentationMaintain copies of blank Mohs maps for future useMaintain pre-numbered slides for Mohs / DAF / additional stagesFile slides weeklyPrepares embedding slides for next surgery dateInstrument sterilization (as needed)Adheres to all safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer service.Performs other duties that may be necessary or in the best interest of the organization.Pathology Lab Duties and Responsibilities(Responsibilities necessary to accomplish job functions)Enter pathology resultsSort reportsEnter patient demographics and insurance for outside specimensCreate NGP for outside specimens (if applicable)Verify patient insurance prior to sending outSend out slides and reportsRequest slides and reports from outside institutions/laboratoriesCharge immunofluorescence specimensFax reports and paperwork for pathologists (as applicable)File requisitions and prepare for scanningAnswer telephonesFile slidesEnter QA slides in IntellipathRemoves cassettes from embedding center and moldsRemove excess paraffin from cassettesLoad and unload H&E stainer/coverslipperDeliver slides with corresponding pathology requisitions to pathologistCollect and line up specimensAccession specimens in IntellipathLabel specimen containers and requisitionsAdheres to all safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer service.Performs other duties that may be necessary or in the best interest of the organization.Maintain quality control logs.Wash and chemically clean laboratory dishesRotate solutions on H&E stainerSECTION 3: Experience RequirementsMinimum one year of work experience in an office, or equivalent combination of education and experience.SECTION 4: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities RequirementsDetail oriented, professional attitude, reliableManagement and organizational skills to support the leadership of this functionAbility to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills to avoid mistakes or misinterpretationsInterpersonal skills to support customer service, functional, and team mate support needsAble to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writingMathematical and/or analytical ability for basic to intermediate problem solvingBasic to intermediate computer operationProficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and OutlookSpecialty knowledge of systems relating to job functionKnowledge of state and federal regulations for this position; general understanding of HIPAA guidelinesSECTION 5: Supervisory Responsibilities:This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
