The Laboratory Assistant plays a critical role in supporting laboratory operations through precise execution of routine technical and clerical tasks. This position ensures the accuracy, safety, and efficiency of laboratory workflows, supporting high-quality patient care and diagnostic services.
Receive, sort, and log incoming laboratory specimens.
Prepare specimens for testing: aliquoting, clot/fibrin checking, inoculations, slide prep, and sample cup transfers.
Build worklists for laboratory tests and assist in resolving pending lists and locating missing samples.
Perform routine maintenance on designated laboratory instruments and equipment.
Prepare reagents and media under supervision.
Record data including temperature logs and QA/QC parameters.
Adhere to PPE and laboratory safety protocols at all times.
Perform radioactive wipe tests and decontaminate work areas routinely.
Dispose of biohazardous materials following regulatory and internal guidelines.
Operate laboratory computer systems and PCs for data entry and reporting.
Maintain organized records and filing systems for department compliance.
Change gas cylinders and maintain supply inventory as needed.
Complete all required training modules and demonstrate competency in assigned areas.
Participate in regular quality assurance and quality control processes.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred: Background in math and science; formal Medical Assistant training.
Experience:
No prior laboratory experience required—training provided on the job.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks efficiently and maintain workstation organization.
Quick learner with strong memory retention skills.
Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with coworkers and stakeholders.
Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
