Job summary

Grays Harbor College is seeking a part-time Lab Assistant to support Microbiology, Anatomy, Biology and Chemistry labs on campus. The role involves creating media and reagents, replenishing equipment, bringing in supplies, and preparing nonhazardous solutions under supervision.

The assistant will help with setup and breakdown of labs, maintain specimens, and ensure safety protocols are followed while working with instructors and students in teaching segments.

Qualifications

• Lab experience in Microbiology, Biology and/or Chemistry preferred or enrollment in related classes.
• Knowledge or ability to learn autoclave operation and media weighing.
• Able to learn to prepare media and read recipe instructions.
• Able to follow instructions accurately and ask questions if needed.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Able to manage time and follow lab teaching schedules.
• understands and follow all safety protocols.
• Math 97 or above.

• Plant and animal maintenance
• Handle preserved specimens

Qualifications

• Lab experience in Microbiology, Biology and/or Chemistry preferred OR enrollment in one of these classes
• Knowledge or the ability to learn how to run an autoclave and weigh media.
• Able to learn to make media and read recipe instructions
• Able to accurately follow instructions and ask questions if need be
• Able to work alone with minimal direct supervision
• Able to understand and work within a schedule to match the needs of the lab teaching segments
• Understands and follows all safety protocols.
• Math 97 or above

Eligibility Criteria

• Enrolled in 6 credits or more
• Must be meeting Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (FA SAP)
• Must have their eligibility determined for federal/state financial aid and be awarded in ctcLink
• Have unmet need in their financial aid cost of attendance – $2500 maximum per quarter (generally for students attending full time)
