Guidehouse Inc. in Bethesda, Maryland, seeks an Animal Facility Veterinarian to care for laboratory animals, support animal welfare, and oversee compliance with ACUC and applicable regulations. This full-time role is based in Bethesda, MD, working with mice and guinea pigs in the TRP vivarium.

You will perform surgical procedures, maintain medical records, develop SOPs, and train staff, while participating in study reviews and policy development to promote humane animal care.

Qualifications

• DVM degree from an accredited institution.
• Current license to practice veterinary medicine in a U.S. state.
• Minimum of SIX (6) years of experience in laboratory animal medicine.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines governing animal care and use.
• Proficiency working with small laboratory animals, specifically mice and guinea pigs.
• Ability to meet physical requirements (standing/walking, bending, kneeling, lifting).
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD public trust.

Responsabilités

• Provide routine and emergency veterinary care for laboratory animals (mice and guinea pigs).
• Conduct regular health assessments and preventive care programs.
• Serve as a voting member of the VRC ACUC.
• Diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries in laboratory animals.
• Maintain accurate medical records and related documentation.
• Perform surgical procedures (spay/neuter, hernia repair, growth removal, dental extractions).
• Provide postoperative care and perform euthanasia as needed.
• Develop and implement animal care SOPs and policies.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines governing animal care and use.
• Provide training to research staff on animal handling, care, and use.
• Review and evaluate animal use protocols for humane treatment.
