Job summary

Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. seeks a dedicated Laboratory Animal Technician in the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. You will perform routine care, feeding, housing, and basic husbandry tasks for laboratory animals in a biomedical research setting.

The role involves operating autoclaves and washing equipment, maintaining records, and supporting diagnostic sample collection. Weekend/holiday shifts may be required; a security clearance will be pursued as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Two years laboratory animal care experience.
• Ability to keep basic records.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and wear respiratory protective equipment as necessary.
• Basic knowledge of computers.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Complete routine tasks related to general laboratory animal care in biomedical research.
• Operate automatic washing and cleaning equipment.
• Operate autoclaves.
• Receive and disinfect supplies into the facility.
• Keep simple records.
• Feed and house laboratory animals.
• General laboratory animal housekeeping.
• Collect hair, fecal and blood samples for diagnostic testing.
• Cleaning tasks for upkeep of a research animal facility.
• Order and stock supplies.
• Use computer skills for email, training, data entry.
• Work schedule includes weekend and holiday hours.
