Job summary

Charles River Laboratories is seeking an Animal Support Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team serving the Boston and Cambridge, MA area. You will care for research animals, monitor health and housing, and assist with cage wash and record keeping in client facilities.

The role involves handling multiple species, following safety and ethical guidelines, and supporting on-site supervisors and veterinarians as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and two years related animal handling, husbandry, and/or technical experience in lab animal research facility.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in biology or animal science or related field and one year experience in animal handling, husbandry, and/or technical experience in lab animal research facility.
• AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and monitor health, production and environment within IS client animal facilities.
• Provide animal care and husbandry, daily equipment checks, food and water, cage change/cleaning.
• Record animal health concerns, cage wash duties and sanitation; provide enrichment.
• Perform restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned.
• May perform basic post-surgical observations and related record keeping, dosing, and sample collection.
