Job summary

SGS – the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company – is seeking an experienced Lab Analyst II for our Wilmington, NC laboratory. You will prepare and analyze samples with accuracy and precision following SGS analytical SOPs, working to meet daily production targets and turnaround times.

The role requires independent work and teamwork, basic analytical chemistry principles, and a commitment to safe practices.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in chemistry or related field required.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in analytical chemistry labs.
• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field preferred.
• Advanced English language skills required.

Responsibilities

• Performs analyses on routine and moderately complex samples per SGS’ analytical SOPs using instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies.
• Operates, maintains, calibrates, and troubleshoots laboratory instruments/equipment.
• Assist with the development and validation of analytical methods, SOPs and other documents for method development, transfer and validation studies.
• Provides technical training, advice and support to Analysts in data analysis.
• May be involved in investigation and responses to client inquiries and CARs.
• May provide technical support to Marketing, Sales, Customer Service and clients regarding testing, reporting or technical inquiries.
• Inputs and maintains technical information to support laboratory operations.
• Manages multiple projects as assigned.
• Maintains Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
• Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Our Wilmington, NC laboratory is looking for an experienced Lab Analyst II to join their team! The Lab Analyst II prepares and analyzes samples with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS' analytical SOPs. The Lab Analyst II works independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensures hold times and turnaround times are met. The Lab Analyst II understands and applies basic analytical chemistry principles. The Lab Analyst II always follows safe laboratory practices and maintains a safe working environment.

• Performs analyses on routine and moderately complex samples according to SGS’ analytical SOPs using instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies
• Performs routine operation, maintenance, calibration, and trouble-shoots laboratory instruments / equipment.
• May assist with the development and validation of analytical methods, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other operating, safety and quality documents for method development, transfer, and validation studies.
• Provides technical training, advice and support to Analysts in data analysis.
• May be involved in investigation, and preparation of responses to client inquiries and CARs.
• May provide technical support to Marketing, Sales, Customer Service and clients regarding testing, reporting or technical inquiries.
• Inputs and maintains technical information as needed to support the laboratory functions/operations.
• Manages multiple projects as assigned.
• Maintains Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
• Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline and 3-5 years of years’ relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories (Required)
• Bachelor’s Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline and 5+ years of years’ relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories (Preferred)
• Advanced English language skills (Required)
• Basic mathematical and reasoning skills(Required)
• Basic computer skills(Required)
• Ability to lift/carry/push and/or pull upwards of 25 lbs on a frequentbasis (Required)
