Job summary

Our Wilmington, NC laboratory at SGS is seeking a Lab Analyst I to join the team. The role involves preparing and analyzing samples with accuracy and precision in line with SGS SOPs, working independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met.

The Lab Analyst I applies basic analytical chemistry principles, follows safe laboratory practices, and maintains a safe working environment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Chemistry or similar, 0–2 years in analytical chemistry OR 3 years in sample prep.
• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with 1–2 years in analytical chemistry (preferred).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; basic math and reasoning skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze samples according to SGS SOPs using department instrumentation.
• Perform routine operation, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory instruments/equipment.
• Assist with validation and MDL studies.
• Assist with investigations and responses to client inquiries and CARs.
• Input and maintain technical information to support laboratory operations.
• Maintain Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
• Adhere to internal standards, policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Lab Analyst I understands and applies basic analytical chemistry principles. The Lab Analyst I always follows safe laboratory practices and maintains a safe working environment.

Job functions

• After appropriate training independently prepares and analyzes samples according to SGS' analytical SOPs using instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies
• Performs routine operation, maintenance, calibration of laboratory instruments/equipment
• May assist with validation and MDL studies.
• Assists with investigation, and preparation of responses to client inquiries and CARs.
• Inputs and maintains technical information as needed to support the laboratory functions/operations.
• Maintains Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
• Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline and 0-2 years of experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories OR 3 years of relevant experience (i.e. Sample Prep) (Required)
• Bachelor's Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline and 1-2 years of years' relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories (Preferred)
• Basic mathematical and reasoning skills (Required)
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) (Required)
• Experience with LIMS (Preferred)
• Ability to lift/carry/push and/or pull upwards of 25 lbs on a frequent basis (Required)
