Job summary

Mattel Press is hiring an LA-based Editor with a strong background in adult activity books and gift books, supporting editorial development across titles from 8 through adult. The role involves working closely with the Senior Editor and collaborating with writers, designers, and cross-functional partners to deliver high-quality publishing experiences.

The ideal candidate will have 2–4 years of editorial experience, strong storytelling instincts, and a passion for bringing beloved brands to life.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of professional editorial experience, preferably in children's, licensed, or trade publishing.
• Strong storytelling instincts and excellent editing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience editing fiction and/or narrative nonfiction with strong developmental editing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate with authors and partners.
• Proficiency with MS Word and Outlook; familiarity with Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Edit assigned titles across Mattel's publishing program to meet editorial and brand standards.
• Support the Senior Editor on larger publishing initiatives and licensed projects as needed.
• Manage editorial projects through all stages with authors, agents, writers, and packagers.
• Collaborate with Design, Production, and Operations to meet goals.
• Present concepts and manuscripts to cross-functional teams and incorporate feedback.
