Job summary

Devopsroles in Berkeley, CA is seeking a skilled Kubernetes Platform Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. In this hands-on role, you will manage Kubernetes clusters across on-premises (K3s/RKE2) and cloud (GKE/EKS), implement advanced networking with Cilium, and empower development teams to ship securely and efficiently.

This 1-year contract offers a hybrid schedule, with potential extension or conversion based on performance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree or 6+ years with a Master's, or equivalent.
• Experience administering Kubernetes on-premises (K3s, RKE2) and with GKE/EKS.
• Strong Linux networking fundamentals: iptables/nftables, routing, DNS, TCP/IP.
• GitOps experience with ArgoCD or Flux; scripting in Bash, Python or Go.
• Cilium CNI or equivalent production networking experience; cloud (GCP/AWS) exposure.
• Understanding of Kubernetes security best practices (Pod Security Standards, RBAC, secrets).
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full lifecycle of Kubernetes clusters (on-prem and cloud), including upgrades and capacity planning.
• Troubleshoot cluster issues, ensure security hardening, and optimize performance.
• Implement networking with Cilium and enforce secure multi-tenant policies.
• Assist development teams with deploying workloads and reviewing manifests.
• Develop platform docs, runbooks, and self-service guides for engineers.
• Collaborate with network engineers on firewall rules, VLANs, and IPv6 planning.
