Job summary

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP is seeking a Knowledge Management Lawyer (KML) for Exempt Organizations and Personal Planning. The role develops knowledge strategy, implements AI-powered solutions, and maintains essential knowledge assets to support a broad KM service portfolio for the practice.

The KML will collaborate with attorneys and staff to drive efficient knowledge capture, dashboards, and client-facing materials, while mentoring associates on research resources and statutory authorities.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of experience in a large law firm in exempt organizations, trusts and estates, and/or tax law with an emphasis on gift and estate tax.
• Extensive knowledge of relevant legal practices and documents.
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Self-starter and highly motivated.
• Strong customer service skills and prompt response time to incoming requests.
• Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to solve problems, both for technical issues and in collaboration with attorneys and non-legal staff/departments.
• Demonstrated good business judgment and analytical skills.
• Prior publication experience (e.g., law firm client alerts) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate to develop and implement knowledge strategies and best practices for Exempt Organizations and Personal Planning.
• Pilot legal technology, AI applications, and client-facing tools to enhance service delivery.
• Stay abreast of legal tech trends and assist in AI-enabled workflows.
• Publish client alerts and articles on developments relevant to the practice groups.
• Develop and maintain knowledge assets, templates, and dashboards for insights.
• Support RFPs, pitches, and client engagement materials.
• Train associates and staff on research databases and legal authorities.
• Coordinate with Firm departments to ensure seamless KM support.
