At Chick-fil-A I-90 & Lacrosse St, our mission is simple, “Win the Heartland”. To accomplish this, we need to be a unified body with a clear pathway to success. That’s where our Team Leaders come in. Our Team Leaders are responsible for encouraging and organizing the teams we give them in the most proactive manner possible. Team Leaders play an enormous role in our team member experience. Team members should be able to go to their leader with all questions concerns or comments they may have. While the Team Leader may not know the answer immediately, they will have the tools and resources to find it. As a Team Leader, you will have the incredible opportunity to connect and build relationships with our team members. You will also have a direct impact on the guest experience by investing in our team members. We utilize the mindset that if our Team Members are cared for by their leaders, they will be best equipped to serve the community. As a Team Leader, you will get to invest in the team in an extremely unique way, by leading them through their highs and lows and being a dependable source of encouragement and advice. Our kitchen, or Back of House (BOH) Team Leaders are expected to know our processes, be capable of leading a group of up to fifteen members, understand basic troubleshooting techniques, uphold our guest experience standards and be capable of ensuring the operations of the shift go smoothly and are completed.
As an AM Kitchen/Back of House (BOH) Team Leader at Chick-fil-A, your day starts prior to the store opening. If you are the first member of the team to arrive, you will follow all of our safety protocols that are outlined in the Team Leader training coursework, this includes surveying the property for signs of an issue such as a break in or robbery. When you have completed this protocol, you will disengage the alarm and begin setting the kitchen up for a full day of serving up smiles. You will ensure all fryers, ovens and grills are turned on appropriately. You will also ensure all coolers and freezers located within the kitchen are functioning properly. You will follow proper protocol regarding chicken handling, including thawing and breading chicken for the day. You will also complete all necessary checklists including the food safety lists. As the time draws closer to opening, you will begin to receive more team members that are entrusted into your care. It is your responsibility to ensure they are all in the proper uniform including hairnets and/or beard nets, as well as working on the correct positions and tasks. Throughout your shift you will get to interact and work alongside your team. Take these opportunities to connect and get to know them. Once the restaurant opens, you are responsible for ensuring the functions of the kitchen run smoothly, including running breaks, administering accountability, food safety guidelines are held up, and systems are being used properly including AHA and food safety lists. Towards the end of your shift, you will begin ensuring that the kitchen is prepared and ready for the next shift. This includes stocking, thawing product, cleaning and food safety guidelines are upheld. When the end of your shift comes, you will ensure all communication, accountability and tasks are completed. You will discuss the day with the next BOH Team Leader and clock out for the day.
As a PM Kitchen/Back of House (BOH) Team Lead, your day will begin around two pm in the afternoon. You will first enter the restaurant and discuss the shift with the AM BOH Team Lead to ensure no gaps exist. After this, you will begin by taking your assigned position and ensuring all team members are in their appropriate positions and completing necessary tasks such as cleaning, stocking, food safety lists etc. Throughout your shift, your responsibility is to ensure that the kitchen runs smoothly, this includes completing boil outs, thawing product, completing food safety lists, handling accountability situations, encouraging your team and running breaks. Just like the BOH AM Team Leader, you will have various opportunities to connect and uplift your team. You are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these moments as they will be some of the greatest team bonding moments. When it comes closer to the closing of the restaurant, you will begin delegating preclose tasks to the team and yourself. This includes monitoring wasted product, cleaning stations etc. Once the restaurant closes, it is the BOH Team Leaders responsibility to ensure the fryers, grills, ovens and warmers get cleaned and closed down. It is also their responsibility to ensure that all food safety standards are continued to be upheld including completing the designated lists and proper dish washing procedures are being followed. They will ensure that all surfaces are cleaned including the floors and cooking equipment. Once the kitchen has been properly closed, they will follow the safety guidelines set forth by the Team Lead training coursework, arm the security system and exit the building with the other closing team members.
