Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in New Jersey is seeking a Suppression Test & Inspect Technician to perform testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fire suppression systems, including wet, dry, pre-action and deluge configurations.

You will read blueprints, inspect components, document results, and communicate findings to customers and supervisors while traveling to job sites to ensure codes and standards are met.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 3+ years in fire and life safety as an apprentice or technician.
• NICET Level I or above preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record if driving.

Responsabilités

• Perform testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of fire suppression systems.
• Inspect valves, gauges, piping, sprinkler heads, and related components.
• Perform functional testing to verify proper system operation and compliance.
• Read and interpret blueprints, system layouts, and inspection reports.
• Document results; complete deficiency documentation and service records.
• Communicate findings clearly to customers and supervisors.
• Travel to job sites as required.

The Suppression Test & Inspect Technician is responsible for performing testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of fire suppression systems including wet, dry, pre-action and deluge systems. This role is fully functioning within core technical responsibilities and can complete standard jobs without direct supervision. The technician ensures systems operate properly, meet customer expectations, and comply with applicable codes and standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of fire suppression systems including wet, dry, pre-action and deluge systems.
• Inspect valves, gauges, piping, sprinkler heads, alarm connections, and related suppression system components.
• Perform functional testing to verify proper system operation and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
• Identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, and communicate findings clearly to customers and supervisors.
• Read and interpret blueprints, system layouts, inspection reports, and technical manuals.
• Use hand tools and testing equipment to complete inspection work efficiently and safely.
• Complete inspection reports, deficiency documentation, and service records accurately and on time.
• Communicate professionally with customers, team members, and supervisors regarding job progress and system status.
• Follow all company safety procedures and customer site requirements.
• Travel to job sites as required.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience in fire and life safety industry as an apprentice or technician.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, if driving role.
• Strong working knowledge of fire suppression systems and inspection procedures.
• Ability to work independently and complete standard inspection jobs without direct supervision.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and system drawings.
• NICET Level I or above preferred.
• Experience with commercial fire suppression systems and inspection compliance requirements preferred.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various environments.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
• Work performed in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
• Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
• Use of hand tools and testing equipment.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.

Pay Rate:

$25 to $30 based on experience.
