Job Description

Reports To: Steward Supervisor, Sous Chef

Profile: The Kitchen Steward position provides essential support to ensure the kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently daily. Primary responsibilities include cleaning serving ware, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans, as well as removing and organizing trash and recycling, and cleaning kitchen floors, shelving, and equipment.

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Report to work on time and prepared for the scheduled shift.
2. Properly break down machines for thorough cleaning of all parts.
3. Change water in machines and clean debris baskets hourly.
4. Keep all chemicals stocked during service to ensure proper cleaning.
5. Notify supervisors when soap products are low.
6. Maintain fresh water in the three-compartment sink, changing at least hourly.
7. Ensure sanitizer test strips are available.
8. Keep the shelf above sinks organized and dry.
9. Take out trash and recycling as needed or at scheduled times.
10. Stock hand sinks with soap and towels throughout the day.
11. Maintain cleanliness and organization of dish stations and soil table.
12. Keep soaking basins clean and fresh.
13. Store and organize back-of-house space daily, including non-food and beverage orders.
14. Remove boxes from receiving area and maintain slop sink.
15. Keep glass rack storage area clean and organized.
16. Perform opening and closing duties as outlined by supervisors.

Qualifications:

• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
• Responsible, dependable, punctual.
• Strong communication skills; must speak, read, and understand English.
• Professional appearance.
• Enthusiasm for 21c Museum Hotels and its mission.
• Pass a background check.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
