Job description

Job Summary: The Kitchen Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing back-of-house areas, including kitchens, laundries, electrical, and mechanical systems in a hotel environment. This role ensures the efficient operation and safety of all kitchen equipment and systems, contributing to a seamless guest experience. The candidate must possess a strong background and knowledge of such systems. Previous engineering experience with commercial kitchen equipment and systems is required, preferably in a hotel environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance of all kitchen, laundry, electrical, and mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  2. Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in commercial kitchen equipment such as ovens, dishwashers, refrigerators, and ventilation systems.
  3. Maintain detailed logs of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and hotel policies.
  4. Collaborate with kitchen staff to identify potential issues and implement solutions promptly to minimize downtime.
  5. Coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs and services, ensuring timely and cost-effective solutions.
  6. Implement and adhere to health and safety guidelines, ensuring all work is safe and compliant.
  7. Maintain an inventory of spare parts and tools, ensuring necessary supplies are available for immediate repair needs.

Requirements:

  • Strong background and extensive knowledge of kitchen, laundry, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Previous engineering experience with commercial kitchen equipment and systems, preferably within a hotel or hospitality environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics related to kitchen and mechanical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with kitchen staff, management, and external vendors.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the hotel’s operational needs.
  • Certification or training in relevant fields such as HVAC, electrical, or mechanical engineering is a plus.
  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials (up to 50 lbs).
    • Capable of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
    • Refined verbal and written communication skills.
