Job Summary: The Kitchen Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing back-of-house areas, including kitchens, laundries, electrical, and mechanical systems within a hotel environment. This role ensures the efficient operation and safety of all kitchen equipment and systems, contributing to a seamless guest experience. Candidates must possess a strong background and knowledge of such systems, with previous engineering experience in commercial kitchen equipment and systems, preferably in a hotel setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of all kitchen, laundry, electrical, and mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in commercial kitchen equipment such as ovens, dishwashers, refrigerators, and ventilation systems.
- Maintain detailed logs of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and hotel policies.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to identify potential issues and implement solutions promptly to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs and services, ensuring timely and cost-effective solutions.
- Implement and adhere to health and safety guidelines, ensuring all work is safe and compliant.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts and tools to ensure availability for immediate repairs.
Requirements:
- Strong background and extensive knowledge of kitchen, laundry, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Previous engineering experience with commercial kitchen equipment and systems, preferably in a hotel or hospitality environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics related to kitchen and mechanical systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with kitchen staff, management, and vendors.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Certification or training in relevant fields such as HVAC, electrical, or mechanical engineering is advantageous.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials (up to 50 lbs).
- Capability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
