KITCHEN HELPER
Department: Operations
Reports To: Property Manager
Location: Kitchen Facilities and Employee Housing (Barracks)
Position Summary
The Kitchen Helper supports the Cook in preparing meals for employees residing in company-provided housing. This role primarily assists in food preparation, kitchen cleanliness, and sanitation to ensure food is handled safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable health and sanitation standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Cook in preparing meals, including washing, cutting, measuring, and organizing ingredients
- Perform basic food preparation tasks such as peeling, chopping, portioning, and assembling food items
- Prepare and set up ingredients and supplies needed for meal preparation
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas before and after use
- Wash dishes, pots, and kitchen tools and ensure proper storage after cleaning
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, food preparation, and storage areas at all times
- Dispose of food waste and garbage in accordance with sanitation guidelines
- Restock kitchen supplies, ingredients, and cleaning materials as needed
- Follow proper food handling, hygiene, and sanitation practices at all times
- Assist in maintaining kitchen readiness for inspections (e.g., health, internal, or compliance inspections)
- Monitor kitchen supply levels and report shortages or issues to management
- Report any food safety concerns, equipment issues, or sanitation problems to management
- Provide support in meal distribution as needed, ensuring food is handled in a safe and orderly manner
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior experience in food preparation, kitchen support, or similar role is an advantage
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of food preparation methods and kitchen sanitation practices
- Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently in a team environment
- Good hygiene and attention to cleanliness
- Reliable and punctual with strong work ethic
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to safely handle kitchen tools and equipment
Work Environment
- Work is performed in kitchen and food preparation areas within employee housing
- May involve exposure to heat, steam, and kitchen equipment
- May require early morning, evening, or weekend shifts based on meal preparation schedules
Additional Requirements / Conditions of Employment
- Physically able to perform kitchen duties, including standing for extended periods, lifting, and repetitive tasks
- Ability to lift to 25–50 lbs., as needed
- Must follow food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards at all times
- Must obtain and maintain a valid health certificate & ServSafe certification, as required by local regulations
- Position is expected to work a split‑shift schedule, typically from 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM; work hours may vary and are subject to change based on operational needs and management discretion
