We seek a highly motivated and experienced Kitchen Staff Worker to prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for children in a licensed childcare ministry. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy kitchen environment while adhering to all regulatory agency guidelines and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Prepare a variety of meals and snacks, including hot and cold dishes, and adapt recipes to meet specific dietary needs.
- Follow CACFP approved menus and directives when preparing all meals and snacks.
- Use the USDA Food Buying Guide for Child Nutrition Program to create recipes ensuring proper components are provided.
- Complete annual CACFP training and all other required trainings.
- Maintain daily counts of meals served and keep accurate records, including inventory and production records.
- Comply with all center regulations and guidelines, as well as all regulatory agency requirements.
- Record freezer and refrigerator temperatures each morning.
- Prepare, plate, and deliver meals to classrooms; retrieve dishes after each meal.
- Prepare water and cups for classrooms each morning.
- Wash kitchenware and sanitize tables before and after meals; sweep and mop cafeteria floors as needed.
- Maintain a sanitary kitchen environment, keeping appliances and surfaces clean and in good condition.
- Complete accurate food orders and grocery shopping; inventory food supplies and report needs to the Head Cook.
- Submit weekly food and milk receipts for audits.
- Maintain records of food allergies.
- Report maintenance or supply needs to the Administrative Assistant; order supplies as requested.
- Properly store food and non-food supplies, ensuring correct temperatures and labeling.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus professional experience in food service and/or nutrition.
- Preferred: five years of professional experience in food service and/or nutrition.
- Food Handling License.
- Valid driver’s license, car insurance, and dependable vehicle.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Ability to lift 40 pounds.
- Ability to reach overhead and bend down.
- Good personal hygiene.
- Finger dexterity.
- Ability to read, understand, and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Remain calm in crisis situations.
Additional requirements include a negative TB test, passing a background check, and a drug screen.
