Job summary

VOA Northern California & Northern Nevada in downtown Sacramento is seeking a Full-Time Kitchen Assistant to join the Central Kitchen team. You will support food preparation, cleaning, and inventory control in a fast-paced environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Daily duties include washing dishes, assisting cooks, preparing sandwiches, unloading deliveries, stocking supplies, and serving meals to seniors, veterans, families, and shelter residents.

Qualifications

• Experience assisting in a kitchen environment.
• Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions without bias.
• High School Diploma or GED is required; Food Handler’s License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties in a safe and sanitary manner using proper food handling techniques.
• Perform safety procedures for all kitchen equipment.
• Clean and sanitize all food prep areas.
• Wash and store cooking appliances, utensils, and dishes.
• Sweep and mop kitchen floors and dining area; wipe walls.
• Maintain stock and inventory.
• Prepare sandwiches.
• Assist cooks with meal prep (washing, peeling, chopping).
• Unloading of delivered food supplies.
• Organize and store food supplies.
• Transfer ingredients from storage to kitchen as directed.
• Set up and serve the food line and bussing tables.
