The University of Connecticut has immediate openings for full-time, non-state, union Kitchen Assistants on the Storrs Campus. This entry-level food service position involves assisting with meal service, sanitation, equipment operation, and other related duties.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $18.42 per hour
  • $500 bonus for new hires completing their working test period (120 days)
  • Generous benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, short-term disability, employee pension plan, and 403b with company match

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with meal service and food preparation
  • Receive, store, and handle delivered items following sanitation procedures
  • Clean dining hall, kitchen, and related areas
  • Operate food service equipment such as slicers, dish machines, fryolators, steamers, and grills
  • Wash dishes and pots, assist in food prep, and maintain sanitation levels
  • Perform outside clean-up, trash disposal, and snow shoveling during winter
  • Monitor equipment and perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to stand for at least four hours
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to operate and maintain food service equipment
  • Knowledge of record keeping
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • ServSafe certification is a plus
