The St. Mary's Food Bank Skills Center is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support our Chef Instructors in the Community Kitchen culinary program.

Position Responsibilities

1. Assist with teaching basic culinary skills and the use of kitchen equipment under the guidance of Chef Instructors.
2. Help open the training kitchen and prepare for daily activities.
3. Ensure students follow proper food handling and sanitation guidelines under supervision.
4. Maintain a clean, organized, and well-maintained kitchen.
5. Keep current inventory of food items, paper goods, and cleaning supplies.
6. Assist Chef Instructors with checking in and storing weekly food orders.
7. Inspect the kitchen with the student team leader after cleaning.
8. Record cooler and freezer temperatures accurately.
9. Label, rotate, and dispose of food products based on expiration dates.
10. Join Chefs at events related to the CK program and Food Bank during and after hours.
11. Serve as a respectful and professional mentor to students.
12. Maintain professional boundaries with students.
13. Report concerns regarding food, facilities, or students to the Kitchen Manager.
14. Prepare Mise en Place for demonstrations and daily activities.
15. Copy recipes for student cooking classes.
16. Assist in meal preparation for students, staff, and guests.
17. Support catering events on and off-site as instructed.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

• Lift, carry, and pull up to fifty pounds.
• Stand for extended periods.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Basic typing and computer skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to work with and teach a diverse population.
