Description
ABOUT THE POSITION:

Assist with preparation, service, and cleanup of school breakfast and/or lunch program. Able to execute a positive environment that produces an enjoyable school food service experience for students, staff, and team members.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows good preparation in accordance with established recipes and correct portion sizes mandated by the production records.
  • Assist Kitchen Manger with pre-production planning and post-production documentation.
  • Participants in food serving line for students and staff.
  • Participates in cleanup of all cafeteria-related areas including sweeping, mopping floors, cleaning, sanitation of equipment, and washing dishes.
  • Become cross-trained of the overall operation to ensure continuity and consistency of service in the event of personnel absence.
  • Demonstrate a working Knowledge of the safe operation of all kitchen equipment.
  • Interact with students and staff in a courteous and positive manner while always maintaining confidentiality.
  • Actively participate in activities designed to improve the school lunch program.
  • Support York Academy’s school goals, objectives, and mission statement.
  • Ensure compliance of the School Breakfast & National Lunch Program, the Department of Agriculture, and the standards/policies of York Academy.
  • Complete 6 hours of training annually as required by the USDA.
  • Attend all required meetings at the request of the Kitchen Manager or Food Service Manager.
  • Performs other related duties assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Food Service Manager.
Requirements
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • ServeSafe Certification
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, with some walking, sitting, or moving throughout the school.
  • Knowledge of food service operation with an understanding of nutrition, sanitation, and food safety (preferred)
  • Able to lift or carry up to 50lbs.
  • Able to complete repetitive movements.
  • Proficient in food prep (cutting/slicing/measuring/mixing) and kitchen equipment operation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene complaint with food service and York Academy policies.
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to problem solve and use sound judgement.
  • Able to work in a loud environment.
  • Flexible to changing environments and assigned tasks.
  • Able to accommodate various degrees of kitchen temperature due to cooking.
  • Works independently with little direct supervision.
  • Works as part of a team.
  • Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated.
  • Demonstrates strong work ethic to achieve school goals.
