The Community Kitchen is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support all aspects of prep and kitchen assistance in our fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with preparing nutritious, home-cooked meals and serve up to 1000 community residents daily, following established practices.
- Ensure the chef has necessary ingredients by sorting and distributing them to appropriate work areas.
- Follow instructions and adhere to strict food hygiene, health, safety, and food preparation techniques, including washing, peeling, chopping, cutting, cooking, and preparing salads and desserts.
- Maintain sanitation and cleanliness by washing work surfaces, equipment, floors, walls, and disposing of rubbish according to procedures.
- Supervise volunteers during food service.
- Perform tasks efficiently within designated time frames.
- Support inventory management, product storage, FIFO practices, ware washing, equipment cleaning, and proper storage.
- Assist with dishwashing and cleaning kitchen equipment daily.
- Maintain temperature logs for food and cold storage areas.
- Cross-train for other roles within the Community Kitchen and attend relevant training sessions.
- Lift 30-50 lbs and move that weight approximately 20 feet.
- Perform any other duties reasonably related to the role.
Qualifications:
- Preferably hold a valid ServSafe and/or Food Protection certification.
- High School Diploma or equivalent, plus 2+ years of culinary training or experience.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a team-oriented attitude.
- Ability to perform tasks quickly and efficiently following instructions.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and able to work collaboratively.
