Job summary

The Salvation Army, NSC-Fayetteville Corps in Fayetteville, NC, is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to help prepare and serve meals in a busy facility. The role includes cleaning equipment, washing dishes, and maintaining a safe, orderly kitchen and dining area.

The position offers part-time hours (approximately 29 per week) with weekend coverage; requires ability to follow health regulations and work with volunteers. ServSafe certification is preferred and prior kitchen experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• One year of experience working in a kitchen preferred.
• SERV SAFE certification is required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists in preparing meals, beverages and snacks; washes and chops fruits and vegetables; mixes beverages and arranges snacks.
• Assists in serving meals ensuring appropriate portions are provided.
• Washes, dries, and stores pots, pans, plates, glasses, cups, bowls, and utensils.
• Cleans tables, chairs, and condiment holders.
• Sweeps, mops, polishes, strips, and waxes kitchen and dining room floors.
• Cleans refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, coffee makers, stoves, and ovens.
• Stocks foods, beverages, and supplies in an orderly and safe manner.
• Empties trash cans.
• Performs all kitchen work in accordance with health regulations related to food preparation, serving and storage.

Salary Range: $13.00 Hourly

Job Category: Food Service

Schedule/Hours: M - S [weekends] to be determined; 29 hours per week

This position is responsible for:

Assists in the preparation and serving of meals; cleans kitchen equipment and washes dishes; sweeps, mops, and waxes floors.

Key responsibilities:

• Assists in preparing meals, beverages and snacks; washes and chops fruits and vegetables; mixes beverages and arranges snacks.
• Assists in serving meals ensuring appropriate proportions are provided.
• Washes, dries, and stores pots, pans, plates, glasses, cups, bowls, and utensils.
• Cleans tables, chairs, and condiment holders

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in monitoring work of volunteers working in the kitchen.
• Performs other related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of cleaning practices, methods, and techniques.
• Ability to assist in the preparation and presentation of meals.
• Ability to wash dishes and kitchen appliances.
• Ability to clean kitchen and dining area.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
• Duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting, relieved by lesser periods of sitting.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a normal kitchen environment where there may be limited physical discomforts associated with working around hot stoves/ovens or cold freezers
