Job summary

Lutheran Social Service (LSS) Kinship Specialist.position is based in South Dakota and involves identifying and engaging relatives for children in DSS/CPS custody. You will collaborate with the child, birth families, and agency staff to locate family connections that best meet the child’s needs.

Travel is required with mileage reimbursement. Full-time, 40 hours per week, with occasional evenings and weekends. LSS offers a comprehensive benefits package and a commitment to equity and service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field, plus one to two years related experience is required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must successfully complete all agency background checks; requires active auto-insurance and a valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one with approved status.

Responsibilities

• The Kinship Specialist works with a child’s team to identify, locate, and engage relatives for children in South Dakota DSS/CPS custody. You will connect with the child, biological parents, DSS/CPS staff, ICWA, and other team members to identify potential placement options or family connections that best meet the child’s needs.
