Who We Are

Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Michigan. Our district includes one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools, and a high school program divided between two 9–12th grade campuses. Role Overview

The Classroom Teacher reports directly to the building principal and is responsible for managing school operations, administrative and personnel procedures, and district policies. The teacher also works indirectly with the Director of Elementary Education on curriculum, instructional methods, assessment, and materials.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide a personalized instructional program tailored to each student's abilities and needs.
  2. Implement prescribed curriculum effectively.
  3. Develop a developmental program with behavioral objectives.
  4. Create a child-centered learning environment using sound mental health and educational psychology practices.
  5. Employ creative instructional methods and materials within the curriculum framework.
  6. Understand individual student characteristics through personal interaction and reports.
  7. Report attendance issues to the principal.
  8. Update attendance reports as needed.
  9. Notify the principal of address and phone number changes.
  10. Share the classroom activity schedule with the principal.
  11. Maintain current lesson plans.
  12. Report student progress to parents using designated methods.
  13. Attend in-service meetings and conferences.
  14. Build strong relationships with students' parents or guardians.
  15. Utilize teacher aides or helpers according to job descriptions.
  16. Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal.
Qualifications

Must hold a valid Illinois Professional Educators License. Recent teaching experience (including student teaching and internships) at the same grade level is preferred.
