Job summary

Alexandria City Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Assistant I - Kindergarten to support the teacher in maintaining classroom order and delivering small-group instruction. The role involves clerical tasks, behavior monitoring, and reporting student progress to the teacher and parents.

The position is a 10-month support role reporting to the School Principal, with responsibilities including first aid and student supervision in multiple school settings.

Qualifications

• Education: 48 college credits or an AA degree, or demonstrate college-level skills in spelling, reading, writing and math by passing a proficiency test.
• Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) encouraged.
• Experience: Job related experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Administers first aid as required to provide immediate care.
• Assists children with disabilities on and off the bus.
• Assists students with breakfast, lunch, snack, cleanup, lavatory, clothing, personal hygiene, and wash-up.
• Implements (under teacher supervision) instructional programs and lesson plans.
• Monitors students during assigned periods in various environments to maintain a safe, positive learning space.
• Performs clerical functions supporting the teacher/administrator.
