Job description

Kids Pastor

Birth – 6th Grade Ministries, Special Needs & Ministry Care Programming

Who We Are:

The MET Church is located on the Northwest side of Houston and our mission is to invite people into meaningful relationship with God and each other. We believe making disciples of Jesus happens in the context of relationship and that small group environments are where we grow spiritually in community with other believers. We also live to serve and connect our local community to hope through our community center and care ministries. You will find our Sunday morning worship to be contemporary and energetic with Bible based teaching focused on understanding and applying God’s word as truth in our lives.

About This Role:

The Kids Pastor at The MET plays a vital role in leading a ministry team that invites children (Preschool, Kids, and Preteens) — and their families — into meaningful relationships with God and each other. Rooted deeply in discipleship, this role focuses on equipping parents as the primary spiritual leaders in their homes and developing volunteers who are passionate about walking alongside kids in their faith journey.

In addition to leading and developing a team of staff and volunteers, the Kids Pastor cultivates a culture of collaboration, care, and spiritual growth. This leader provides clear vision, steady leadership, and consistent encouragement — empowering others to lead with confidence and invest deeply in the lives of the children and families they serve.

The Kids Pastor also provides oversight to The MET’s Special Needs Programming and Ministry Care Programming, ensuring that every ministry environment is welcoming, Christ-centered, and accessible for every child and family.

Who You Are: Competencies, Abilities, & Character Qualities

  • You love Jesus and are committed to growing as a disciple by abiding in Christ, living in meaningful relationships with others, and being a disciple-maker (John 15, Acts 2, Matt. 4:19, Matt. 28).
  • You’re a disciple-maker that is intentional with a small group of others with whom you’re in relationship.
  • You love working as part of a bigger team. You find joy in building teams by recruiting, rallying, and mobilizing people to do inconvenient things for the cause of Christ and the mission of the church.
  • You’re a relational leader who pursues others and finds joy by investing in them on a personal level. You love reaching people who do not have a relationship with Jesus with the gospel.
  • You find joy in completing tasks to reach the desired results.
  • You’re a continual learner. You seek out new information that better equips you to be an effective leader and follower of Christ.
  • You’re emotionally mature. You understand the dynamics of effectively working with and through others to complete tasks and projects, as well as resolving conflict in healthy, God-honoring ways.
  • You champion and model the core virtues of The MET Church – humility, effectiveness, awe, relationship and truth.

The Why:

You are an ambassador of Jesus – anointed and assigned an active role in the great commission. You get to serve alongside a team with a unified mission to make disciples who make other disciples while also utilizing your unique gifts to serve and lead in your assigned span of care. You get to experience a healthy staff culture that is rooted in love, discipleship and celebrating the glory of God.
