County of Hawai'i seeks dedicated Animal Care Attendants to maintain safe, sanitary shelter facilities and care for animals. Three vacancies exist in Puna and Kailua-Kona with permanent and temporary terms; position requires handling animals, record keeping, and public interaction.
Special working conditions include seven-day operations, possible four 10-hour days, weekend/holiday work, and exposure to hazardous conditions. Health and safety standards apply.
Independently maintains safe and sanitary facilities for shelter animals and the public; processes and cares for shelter animals; and performs other related duties.
There are three (3) immediate vacancies with the Animal Control and Protection Agency:
The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.
Special Working Conditions: The Animal Control and Protection Agency is a seven (7) day a week operation. Working hours may include four (4) day/ten (10) hour workdays, weekend, and holiday work as required. Exposure to hazardous, filthy, and/or obnoxious conditions.

License Requirement
All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant\'s training, education and experience as presented in the application.

Knowledge of: animal care, identification of various animal species, and basic cleaning and disinfectants; safe and effective handling, restraint, and confinement of animals; characteristics of different species and breeds of animals, and laws, ordinances, and regulations applicable to the proper care, control, and protection of animals.
Ability to: apply safety precautions involved in the safe handling of animals; enforce animal control regulations; detect unusual behavior or condition of animals; communicate effectively with the public; plan assignments; follow oral and written instructions, and keep records.
Physical Requirements: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
