Job summary

Effective School Solutions in New Jersey seeks a School-Based Mental Health Technician for K-5 in Orange. You will support students' behavioral health within a school setting, collaborating with clinicians, teachers, and families to implement individualized plans.

Responsibilities include monitoring progress, assisting with BIPs, crisis response, and providing in-classroom support. A Bachelor’s degree and prior school or clinical experience are preferred; strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a school or clinical setting supporting student behavioral health.
• Experience working with students, families, and community-based mental health or social service agencies.
• Strong interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of basic therapeutic interventions and counseling techniques.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse student populations.
• Demonstrated commitment to improving access to behavioral health services in schools.

Responsibilities

• Partner closely with ESS clinicians to support students' mental health and overall well‑being.
• Monitor and track student progress; provide timely updates to the interdisciplinary team.
• Assist in developing, implementing, and reinforcing individualized care plans.
• Co-facilitate group interventions and student support sessions under clinician guidance.
• Support therapeutic milieu management; scheduling sessions, passes, lunch support, skill building, escorting students.
• Provide in-classroom support through observation and targeted interventions.
• Collect and track student data; assist in developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as needed.
• Respond to crisis situations effectively, coordinating with clinicians and school staff.
• Collaborate with family and external providers to strengthen student support systems.
• Assist with case management tasks, including referrals and connecting families to community resources.
