Job summary

Brainerd Public Schools is seeking a Long Term Substitute Special Education Assistant (K-4) to support students with diverse needs at Harrison Elementary. The role follows the IEP, collaborates with teachers, and involves inclusive classroom activities, lunch, and bus duties.

The position is full-time temporary through 12/08/2026, 8 hours per day, Mon-Fri. Requires compassion, adaptability, and commitment to student development; salary is $16.00 per hour with non-exempt status.

Qualifications

• Experience working with students with physical, cognitive and/or mild behavioral needs.
• Handle with Care Training - certification required within three months of being hired and maintained during employment.
• Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills and be a team member.
• Ability to be flexible based on program and student needs.
• Ability to collect data on student progress as defined in IEP.

Responsibilities

• Carry out duties and responsibilities outlined in a student’s IEP.
• Assist students in individual or group settings in resource or inclusive settings.
• Provide specialized instruction/interventions/accommodations as outlined in IEP.
• Collaborate with teachers and related service providers to ensure student safety and success.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional relationships.
• Monitor student progress and support classroom discipline policies.
