Job summary

Detroit Public Schools Community District is seeking K-2 Literacy Coaches on Special Assignment to support school leaders and ILTs in analyzing data and developing targeted coaching plans for a caseload of teachers. The COSA will guide implementation of DPSCD instructional materials and objectives under the Vision for Excellent Instruction.

Minimum qualifications include a valid Michigan teaching certificate, a bachelor’s degree, 5+ years of teaching and experience in professional learning

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan teaching certificate in focus content area or grade band.
• Bachelor's degree; advanced coursework in content area and/or grade band.
• Five or more years of successful teaching experience with high ratings.
• Experience facilitating grade/team level professional learning.
• Knowledge of literacy standards and the science of reading.
• Proficiency with DPSCD instructional practices and assessment tools.
• Experience using formative, screening, and diagnostic assessments.

Responsibilities

• Implement the DPSCD coaching model and four coaching mindsets.
• Build strong relationships with school leaders and ILT members.
• Define student outcome goals for caseload schools.
• Create collaborative environments with staff for planning and accountability.
• Analyze data to tailor coaching plans and professional learning.
• Coach teachers to implement DPSCD instructional materials.
• Diagnose coaching needs using multiple data sources and observations.
• Develop and monitor coaching plans and cycles with rehearsals and debriefs.
• Utilize DPSCD tools and resources to support teacher coaching.
• Record coaching activities and progress in DPSCD systems.
• Support Lead Teachers with afterschool learning sessions.
• Lead district-wide professional learning on coaching and content.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
