Job summary

Anticipated K-2 Autistic Support Instructional Assistant at East Allen Elementary. Hours are 8:45am - 3:15pm.

Assist a certificated teacher by reinforcing instruction to individuals or small groups of identified students in a classroom or other learning environment. Qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalency, compliance with employment and background checks, and the ability to meet 'Highly Qualified' status.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalency
• Compliance with Employment Eligibility, Criminal History Record, Pre-Employment Drug Testing, and Physical Examination/TB Test Standard
• Meets 'Highly Qualified' status under No Child Left Behind
• Associates Degree or 48 post-secondary credits or district approved assessment
• Experience working with children, including those with special needs, in an organized setting
• Proficient in English with strong oral and written communication
• Ability to interact courteously with school personnel and the public
• Ability to operate a computer and office equipment
• Maintains high level of confidentiality
• Establishes cooperative working relationships
• Knowledge of academic principles, child development, basic subjects, instructional methods, classroom procedures

Responsibilities

• Understands, relates and assists children with special needs
• Assists students in standardized and District testing
• Maintains student files and program records
• Reinforces instruction within individual or small groups of identified students, as directed by the teacher
• Monitors and oversees student drills, practices and assignments in various subjects
• Assists assigned teacher in implementation of student behavior plans, lesson plans and materials to meet student needs
• Reads books to students and assist with reading and writing activities as assigned
• Assists with ordering supplies as directed
• Assists with personal care, if necessary or in an emergency
• Complies with District health and safety regulations
• Attends meetings and training as assigned
• Performs related duties as assigned
