Job summary

Chartwells K-12 is seeking an Executive Chef to lead its K-12 dining program across seven schools serving approximately 3,200 students in Muskegon. This role emphasizes scratch cooking initiatives, catering growth, and strong team leadership with 47 union frontline associates.

The position reports to the Director of Dining Services and requires hands-on culinary expertise, excellent computer proficiency, and a focus on food safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree highly desired or equivalent experience in culinary arts.
• 5+ years of progressive culinary/kitchen management experience, with catering experience preferred.
• Proven success in high-volume, complex foodservice operations.
• Hands-on chef experience with knowledge of food trends, quality, sanitation, cost control and presentation.
• High proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and email systems.
• Willingness to engage in client satisfaction programs and activities.
• ServSafe certification is highly desirable, highlighting commitment to food safety.

Responsibilities

• Develops regular and specialty menus in line with K12 standards.
• Trains kitchen staff in food preparation, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
• Establishes and maintains cleaning and maintenance schedules for equipment and areas.
• Handles inventory of food and supplies, optimizing utilization.
• Ensures health and sanitation regulations compliance and participates in audits.
• Participates in departmental meetings and staff development initiatives.
• Performs other duties to support dining service operations.
