Job summary

Travis County is seeking a Juvenile Probation Officer to supervise and counsel juvenile clients at various stages within the juvenile justice system. The role involves conducting initial and follow-up interviews, explaining probation conditions, and assisting clients in meeting terms of probation.

Responsibilities include monitoring client behavior, coordinating with criminal justice and social service agencies, and preparing assessments and court recommendations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social or Behavioral Sciences or a directly related field is required.
• One year of experience in case management, social service, community or juvenile agency that deals with offenders or disadvantaged persons is required for JPO I.
• Two years of experience in case management, social service, community corrections or juvenile agency that deals with offenders or disadvantaged persons is required for JPO II.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and monitors juveniles on probation through home, school and office visits and other contacts.
• Conducts investigations, interviews clients and families, reviews police reports and court transcripts.
• Explains probation conditions and assists clients in meeting terms of probation.
• Prepares written assessments and recommendations to the court concerning sentencing and probation plans.
• Maintains client files and records in compliance with laws and policies.
• Transports clients to facilities as required.
• May supervise clients in secure facilities and conduct repairs or restraints as needed.
