Job summary

Dakota County’s Juvenile Services Center in Hastings, MN is seeking an Assistant Probation Officer to supervise youth, support case-plan goals, and document progress in a 24-hour secured setting.

This open competitive posting covers day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts. Position rotates on 4-on/2-off days for days/evenings and 6-on/3-off for overnights. A background check is required and applications must include supplemental questions.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Education/experience combination to equal three or more years as described (two years post-secondary + 1 year experience or 3 years experience).
• Valid driver’s license and First Aid/CPR within 6 months of hire (training provided).

Responsibilities

• Provide and manage direct services to clients (max 8 per officer).
• Facilitate client programming throughout the day/evening (recreation, cognitive groups, meals, schooling).
• Use evidence-based practices in cognitive interventions.
• Complete daily client notes and monthly reports.
• Conduct well-being checks via electronic device.
• Respond respectfully to residents/guardians, victims, and service providers.
• Maintain safety and security within the Juvenile Services Center, including restraint where necessary.
• Staff the Control Center and monitor program activities, emergencies, and facility access.
• Prepare clients for court and assist in intake process.
