The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) seeks a senior Juvenile Justice Specialist 5 for Bridge City Center for Youth in Bridge City, LA. You will guide daily facility operations, mentor staff, and champion a structured, trauma-informed environment where youth can heal, grow, and succeed.

You will enforce safety, security, and program standards, participate in audits, and collaborate with higher-level leaders on personnel matters and cross-disciplinary coordination.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or one year of experience in any field plus:
  • Three years of experience in a residential, correctional, behavioral health, or group home setting with responsibility for rehabilitation, custody, or security; or
  • Three years of experience in Probation and Parole.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Operations Shift Supervisor, overseeing daily facility operations and supervising a housing unit as needed.
  • Maintain safety, security, and order by supervising youth and staff movement; ensure doors and gates are secured.
  • Oversee youth movement during meals, education, recreation, medical or mental health appointments; maintain custody and control.
  • Prepare, review, and submit shift reports, incident documentation, and follow-up actions.
  • Participate in ACA and PbS audits; assist with policies, procedures, and SOPs; train staff.
  • Coordinate safety programs and track safety data to identify trends and corrective actions.
  • Contribute to treatment team meetings and serve on Code of Conduct committees as assigned.
  • Supervise subordinate staff; manage time and attendance, evaluations, and training needs.

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated and experienced professional to join our team as a Juvenile Justice Specialist 5, a senior-level leader who plays a vital role in the heart of our secure care operations. In this dynamic position, you will guide daily facility functions, support and mentor staff, and help create a structured, trauma-informed environment where youth can heal, grow, and succeed. This role is essential in advancing agency policies, strengthening safety and accountability, and championing positive youth development across the facility.

Possession of a high school diploma or GED or one year of experience in any field plus:

Three years of experience in a residential, correctional, behavioral health, or group home setting with responsibility for one or more of the following: rehabilitation of delinquent youth, clinical care, custody, or security; or

Three years of experience in Probation and Parole.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.

Job Duties:
  • Serve as the Operations Shift Supervisor, overseeing daily facility operations and providing leadership across assigned areas, including supervision of a housing unit when needed.
  • Maintain safety, security, and order by supervising youth and staff movement, ensuring doors and gates are secured, conducting building and perimeter checks, and completing required security rounds in accordance with OJJ and facility procedures.
  • Oversee youth movement during meals, education, recreation, pill call, and medical or mental health appointments, ensuring custody and control at all times.
  • Prepare, review, and submit shift reports, incident documentation, and other required records, determining appropriate follow-up actions as needed.
  • Participate in ACA and PbS audits, assist with developing policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures, and serve as a training officer for staff.
  • Support facility safety initiatives by coordinating safety programs, developing safety-related policies, and tracking accident and hazard data to identify trends and corrective actions.
  • Contribute to treatment team meetings by sharing observations and recommendations, and serve on Code of Conduct committees when assigned.
  • Supervise subordinate staff by managing time and attendance records, completing performance evaluations, identifying training needs, and providing coaching and consultation.
  • Collaborate with the Juvenile Justice Specialist 6 and the Corrections Lieutenant Colonel on personnel matters and cross-disciplinary coordination.
  • Respond to emergencies, conduct searches, and enforce all contraband control policies, ensuring proper documentation is completed.
  • Remain available for a twenty-four-hour call and perform related duties as assigned, including acting in the absence of higher-level supervisory staff.

Compensation Information: The Juvenile Justice Specialist 5 title has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,971.20biweekly.
