Job summary

Commonwealth of Kentucky's Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a Correctional Officer in Newport, KY. The role involves custodial supervision of juveniles in a detention setting, enforcing safety, and supporting program functions within the Juvenile Justice system.

Salary includes a base annual pay with locality and shift premiums, and overtime eligibility. Applicants must complete a DJJ training academy and meet physical requirements. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High school graduate required.
• Must be twenty years of age.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Must complete the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy within six months of employment.
• OC spray training/certification required.

Responsibilities

• Maintains custody and control of juveniles in a custodial setting or related assignments.
• Supervises and monitors detained juveniles; maintains a safe and secure detention center.
• Takes required actions during emergencies and stands watch in units.
• Assists juveniles in interpersonal skill development.
• Performs maintenance support, checks premises, attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Transports juveniles as needed.
