Dependency Advocacy Center in San Jose seeks a staff attorney to advocate for indigent parents and youth in the juvenile dependency system. The attorney will handle a full caseload from interviews to court hearings, collaborating with social workers and mentor parents in a holistic defense model.

You will appear at hearings, prepare witnesses, participate in mediations, and engage in ongoing trainings to deepen knowledge of relevant systemic issues while upholding dignity and respect for clients

Formación

• Active California State Bar license.
• Experience in juvenile dependency law preferred.
• Courtroom advocacy experience.
• Ability to work compassionately with clients in crisis.
• High degree of professionalism.
• Ability to interact respectfully with judicial officers and adhere to court schedules.
• Commitment to public interest issues.
• Ability to flourish in a high-energy environment.
• Ability to multi-task and be a productive team player.
• Excellent verbal, interpersonal, writing, interviewing, and organizational skills.
• Bilingual skills preferred.

Responsabilidades

• Represent parents and some children at all stages of the juvenile dependency process.
• Extensive in-person court appearances and daily client contact.
• Interview clients, assess case merits, confer with social workers and opposing counsel.
• Appear at hearings, prepare witnesses, participate in mediations, and present cases in court.
• Participate in trainings to deepen legal knowledge and courtroom skills.
