Job summary

The Children’s Law Center of California in Sacramento seeks an Attorney to advocate for children in dependency proceedings in and out of court, partnering with judges, social workers, CASA volunteers, and other legal advocates to ensure fair outcomes. The position requires a Juris Doctor and active California Bar membership; prior dependency law or trial experience is preferred.

Salary ranges from $74,169 to $115,545 annually, plus a strong benefits package and opportunities for professional

Qualifications

• Prior experience in dependency law or trial experience preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with judges, social workers, and co-counsel to advocate for clients.
• Strong legal research, writing, and courtroom advocacy skills.
• Commitment to representing children in dependency proceedings with cultural sensitivity.

Responsibilities

• Assess critical issues of each assigned case and advocate for each client.
• Prepare motions, pleadings, briefs, and memoranda of law; timely submissions.
• Engage resources to properly represent clients, including services and experts.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences and communicate effectively with diverse families.
• Treat clients’ caregivers and family members with respect.
• Pursue continuous learning and stay informed about evolving social dynamics.
